It's day 1 of my 31 day challenge! I'm off to a good start!
On Wednesday, Madi turned 9 months old! She getting to be such a big girl!! When I took her for her well-check appt, she was 17 lbs 9 oz. and 26 1/2 in. tall. She's in the 90% for her weight and 75% for her height. These percentages are, of course, on the Down syndrome charts. ( I know that the APA does not use those charts as of August, but, I choose to use them. That's another blog post coming.)
Some of the great and wonderful things Madi is doing these days.......
~ starting to creep in the army crawl position!!!!
~ sitting independently. I still prefer to put a blanket or something in the general area behind her, though, because she hasn't learned how to catch herself going backwards yet. She does pretty good to the sides but every now and then she still topples back.
~ LOVES puffs!!! We try to have her sit and eat them a couple of times a day to practice her fine motor skills and to work on chewing bigger chunks of food. We usually have to help her somewhat because she can't get the puffs in her mouth very well. She grabs the puff and brings it to her mouth, but doesn't know how to open her palm to get it in her mouth. Any suggestions?
~ LOVES ice cream! Last weekend was a weekend of first's for her, food wise. She had her 1st real ice cream cone. It was the funniest thing ever......she literally grabbed my hand to shove the cone back into her mouth!
~ Actually, she pretty much loves all food! She is a very good eater! And the thicker and lumpier it is, the more she wants. Yeah!!! Hopefully this means she won't have sensory issues with food.
~ She babbles alot! She says baba, dada and a couple of times I have heard gaga.
~ She is starting to get the concept of "So Big!" and waving bye-bye. When you do it to her, she can "kind of" do it sometimes. With a little more practice, hopefully she will become more consistent.
I am so proud of how well she is doing!!
Unfortunately, she had her shots, which included a flu shot, and she seems to be having a bad reaction to it. 2 nights ago she woke up with a 104 degree fever! Ouch! She is very cranky and lethargic too. Poor baby! I hope this doesn't last long.

Awww! She is so cute!! I miss that age!
LOL. i looooove the ice cream pics! that is so adorable...Nevaeh had sensory issues with a lot of things and her therapist would have her do certain exercises to help her fine motor with eating/feeding. they had a bucket of dry beans and had her feel/touch/grasp hand fulls and then have her release them onto the floor or table where she was sitting. like a cause and effect thing. she would see and hear the beans fall after she'd drop them.
