Day 6 of 31: Cheyenne Mtn. Zoo

Today's post is going to have nothing to do with Down syndrome......but I have to share with everyone the most amazing zoo!

Cheyenne Mtn. Zoo in Colorado Springs........once you have gone there you will never go back to a traditional zoo again!!

The #1 feature of the zooooo..............feeding the giraffes!

Your trip will start out like this......

.............buying $30 in lettuce.  I know, it sounds silly to spend this kind of money in lettuce.  But, without the lettuce, you can't experience this.......

Baby girlie had to get in on the action too!!

There's nothing better than feeling the slimy, oozy drool as the giraffe wraps it's long winding tongue around your arm and hand.  Ok, maybe that's not true, there are better things.  But, the experience is amazing!!!  These giraffes are mere inches from you!  They are such beautiful creatures ~ their eyelashes are so long and lustrous!  You really get to see every little intricate feature of their faces!

After you finish with the giraffes, you wind up the hill to the next stop.  That's another thing about the zoo, it's located on the side of a hill.  As you are driving up to it, you think there is no way that there is a zoo up here.

Taylor and her cousin, Sylas

Next stop.......carousel ride!

The bear exhibit is another one of my favorites!  The bear's are usually playing in the water, thrashing each other up against the glass.  Again......the animals are mere inches from you!  The only thing protecting you from the grizzly bears is the glass!

Finish off the zoo experience with a little feeding of some chickens!

If anyone ever has the chance to come and experience this zoo.......it is a must!!!

I went there for the first time in April, it was AWESOME! you're so right, you can't go back to traditional zoos again :) And, I had the luxury of being pushed up and down the hills in a wheel chair, being 35 weeks prego, by the mighty fireman Billy Karcher, LOL :D
